Where Heritage
Meets Heart

True Basket is not just a store — it's a gathering of stories, slow craftsmanship, and objects that bring warmth to modern life.

Our journey began with a simple belief: home should feel like poetry.

Founded in 2018 by designer Élodie Moreau and curator James Cartwright, True Basket was born from a shared desire to reconnect with authentic, soulful design. Disillusioned by mass-produced uniformity, we traveled from the French countryside to Japanese pottery villages, seeking artisans who pour their spirit into every creation.

Today, True Basket collaborates with over 40 independent ateliers across Europe, Asia, and South America. Our collection marries clean silhouettes with unexpected textures — linen drapes that soften with age, oak tables carved by third-generation woodworkers, and ceramics painted under morning light in the Tuscan hills.

We believe that the most beautiful spaces are layered with meaning. Every piece we offer carries a signature of its maker, a note of imperfection that makes it unmistakably human.

Our Pillars

🌿

Mindful Materials

Sustainably sourced wood, recycled metals, organic linens — we prioritize low-impact materials that age gracefully.

🤝

Fair Craft

Every artisan receives fair wages, long-term partnerships, and creative recognition. We visit each workshop annually.

Timeless Design

No fast trends. Our objects are made to be cherished for decades, transcending seasons and fads.

📖

Story Led

We share the journey behind each piece — the hands, the history, the techniques that shaped it.

Voices of the Workshop

Meet Yuna Kim, a fourth-generation potter from Icheon, Korea. Her family’s studio has crafted moon jars for over a century. At True Basket, Yuna’s vessels sit alongside Moroccan terracotta and handwoven Belgian tapestries — a quiet dialogue between traditions.

"Clay remembers every touch. When you hold one of our pieces, you're holding patience, failure, and discovery — the honest rhythm of making." — Yuna Kim

We champion these unsung masters. Through our "Artisan Spotlight" series, we invite you into their studios, sharing videos and interviews that celebrate slow creation.

Élodie Moreau

Co-Founder & Creative Director

Élodie grew up between a rustic farmhouse in Provence and a minimalist apartment in Copenhagen. That duality — rustic warmth meets clean lines — defines True Basket's aesthetic. After studying design at the Royal College of Art, she spent a decade as a buyer for concept stores, but always felt something was missing: a direct connection to makers.

In 2018, she left the corporate world with a backpack and a notebook, traveling to remote workshops. "I wanted to create a platform that doesn't strip away identity. We're curators of stories, not just inventory."

Today, Élodie leads our curation team, personally selecting every object that arrives in our collection. Her favorite piece? A hand-stitched linen throw from a small collective in Lithuania.
